High Court to Review Meghana’s Plea in Banstarim Accident Case, Crime Branch to Provide Accident Report for Compensation, Victims Identified for Distribution of Funds

In a significant development, the High Court is set to
review Meghana Sawardekar’s plea, the owner of the car involved in the tragic
Banastarim accident, challenging a summons from Mardol Police. Notably, Meghana
has deposited 2 crore rupees with the High Court, earmarked for potential
compensation to the victim’s family.

The High Court has issued a directive to the Crime Branch to
furnish a comprehensive accident report within a 60-day timeframe to the Motor
Accident Claims Tribunal. This report will serve as the foundation for the
victim’s family to seek compensation, in addition to the 2 crore rupees
contributed by car owner Meghana Sawardekar.

The compensation distribution plan has been outlined, with
Divar’s Phadte family and Arup Karmakar’s parents set to receive 50 lakhs each.
Raj Majgaonkar will be entitled to 25 lakhs, Shankar Harlankar to 40 lakhs, and
Vanita Bhandari to 35 lakhs, particularly significant given the permanent
injuries sustained by Shankar and Vanita as a result of the incident.
