MARGAO: The All Goa Bus Owners’ Association has demanded a high-level inquiry into functioning of loss-making Kadamba Transport Corporation, even as it called for the construction of a modern bus stand at Margao.
Addressing the media, Association President Shailendra Faldesai said the KTC has been making losses over the years despite grants and loans provided by the government. He demanded the government immediately constitute a committee to probe into the finances of the corporation. “Since its inception in 1980 till date, the KTC has been receiving subsidies, grants and loans from the government. The KTC is also receiving Rs nine crore annually from the Social Welfare Department. Despite all this, the KTC management claims it is making losses. Time has come for the government to explain the losses”, he said, adding that the government should think of winding up the KTC and save public funds from wastage.
Slamming the government for the advance passenger tax, Faldessai cited an instance how a private bus operator was fined by the Transport Department for delay in paying the tax, while demanding to know whether the government is extorting money from private players to make up losses sustained by KTC. “The Goan public want to know where money spent on KTC is going. Is it being spent as diesel expenses for the Chairman?” he demanded to know. He also demanded early construction of a modern bus stand saying the existing she has outlived its utility.
