A major accident has been reported at Nuvem Junction between a rickshaw and a car. The high-speed car rammed into a rickshaw approaching from the other side and dragged it 10 meters away. The rickshaw driver sustained major injuries as it was dragged 10 meters further from the collision point.
According to the car driver, he did not see the rickshaw coming from the other side. The car driver showed no signs of injury despite being at a high speed of around 180 km/h. When the tragedy occurred, Abdul Shaikh, the rickshaw driver, was returning from the Bhoma road after dropping off his passengers. Locals rushed to the spot to check for any fatalities. Upon arriving the locals found the rikshaw driver critically injured and immediately called an ambulance.
As per the eyewitnesses, the ambulance arrived 20 minutes late and the driver was swiftly shifted to GMC for treatment. The police services arrived at the spot and began their investigation. The locals even pointed out the lack of CCTV surveillance around the junction as it would have helped the police department to investigate this matter thoroughly.
While explaining the main cause for the regular accidents, the locals asserted, “The major reason for the frequent accidents taking place in this junction is the non-functional traffic signals. It is the responsibility of the government to appoint traffic personnel if the signals are not working.” The locals also requested Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to make some arrangements at the Nuvem Junction for smooth traffic flow.
