DABOLIM: One of the most common complaints that Premanand ‘Babu’ Nanoskar has received during his extensive door-to-door campaign across Dabolim constituency, is about the high unemployment rate, especially from parents who are upset with the State government for failing to provide jobs for their children or create adequate employment opportunities.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Dabolim candidate, Babu Nanoskar, as he is fondly referred to, has accused the BJP government’s ministers of being more interested in corruption and scams instead of trying to resolve one of Goa’s biggest issues.
“There are 3,500 youths in Dabolim who are unemployed. We have met parents whose children are graduates with high scores but are still without jobs. We have met a B.Ed teacher whose salary is much lower than what a daily wage labourer earns in a month. The government should have ensured that our educated youth get jobs that pay them well,” said Nanoskar.
The former Assembly contestant and municipal councillor also listed the various promises AAP has assured to deliver if elected, which include upgrading Goa’s education infrastructure as well as setting up of other facilities like Mohalla (medical) clinics.
On a personal front and based on the feedback from the electorate, Nanoskar said enforcing changes in the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) to curb the trend of converting the zones of lakhs of square metres of agricultural land for commercial purposes will be one of his priorities.
“We have to protect what God has given us. These are natural resources which are being exploited for personal benefit. If elected, our goal is to appoint professionals as members of the MPDA as presently none of them are qualified planners and the Outline Development Plans (ODPs) have been systematically tweaked,” he lamented.
He rued that there has not been proper development in Dabolim except for routine maintenance works and two big projects. He pointed out how the voters want a change and are upset with the erratic and inadequate power supply, poor quality of the drains, and sewerage network amongst other civic issues.
“The only real development has been that of the assets of the MLA,” Nanoskar alleged.
Speaking about his development plans, Nanoskar said it all revolved around the people and that the key part is being in the constituency and easily available to the public so that small problems are not kept pending for months but are addressed immediately.
