Highway expansion

There are a few suggestions which I would like to make for the ongoing road expansion from Jackni bandh to Navelim junction. I have observed that sand is taken from the land and just being dumped in the 􀏐ield along the present road. There should have been a proper foundation of strong laterite stones before the sand is dumped for construction or expansion of the road. Additionally water should have been used, otherwise with just one monsoon, the new road will sink, leaving the old part of the road at a higher level than the new one being constructed which will do more harm than good. Secondly, there should be a lane constructed only for bicycles. The recent example of New Delhi where the government is seriously thinking of ways to reduce vehicular pollution should be borne in mind. Drainage and underground cabling of electric as well as telephone and water lines should be of good standard along the road. I hope the contractor, PWD of􀏐icials and other authorities bear in mind my suggestions. Otherwise, there is no point in cutting of the many decade old trees which were providing shade for motorists, a nesting ground and a place of fodder for many species of birds in a fast urbanizing and
