PANJIM: The Congress party on Monday termed the Union government’s move to increase the fare of the special trains to Vailankanni as “anti minority” and has demanded a roll back of the same.
Addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello sought Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu’s intervention in reducing the fare.
“BJP-led union government has increased the fare of the special train ferrying the pilgrims to Vailankanni. Thousands of people take advantage of this train annually to participate in this festival. This move by the BJP-led government is ‘anti-minority’,” he charged.
He said that party condemns the BJP-led union government’s move to increase the fare of the special trains to Vailankanni, which will be almost double the existing price.
D’Mello further charged that the current fare hike is 300 per cent, which has made the ticket unaffordable for the poor.
