PONDA: Stepping up the crusade against cattle slaughter in the State, speakers at the second day of the Third All India Hindu Convention at Ramnathi-Ponda hit out at the State BJP government for its tacit support towards cattle slaughter.
Hanumant Parab of the Govansha Raksha Abhiyan (Goa) accused the BJP government of appeasement towards the Muslim community, by remaining silent towards the cattle slaughter in the State.
“When I filed a petition against the ongoing cattle slaughter before the High Court, I was opposed by the BJP. In the State Assembly, the BJP assures the Muslim community of help for Qurbani during Bakri-Id. Yet, we avoided 65% of the cattle-slaughter in the State this year because of efforts by the Goraksha Abhiyan,” said Parab.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should implement a ban on cattle-slaughter throughout the nation,” Parab added.
Amrut Singh of the Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) lamented that domestic cattle had been largely ignored by authorities and animal rights organisations.
“Efforts are being made by the government and animal-welfare organisations to protect wild animals. However, non-aggressive domestic cattle are slaughtered and no efforts are being made to protect them,” said Singh.
“Hence, this issue needs to be taken to the people. Not just cows, but bulls also need to be protected. Slaughter of bulls will affect the reproduction of the cows,” he added.
Other speakers who aired their views on the theme ‘Gopalan and Goraksha’ included Acharya Niranjan Kumar Verma of Maharshi Vagbhata Goshala (Tamil Nadu), Shailesh Holla of Kamdhenu Trust (Karnataka), Manish Pandey, state vice-president of Hindu Yuva Vahini (Varanasi), Sudarshan of Goudnyan Foundation (Delhi), Advocate Devdas Shinde, member of Hindu Swabhiman Pratishthan (Pune) and Satishkumar, founder-president of Gauraksha Dal (Punjab).
In another theme, Suresh Chavhanke, director of the National News Channel ‘Sudarshan News’ claimed that news channels are being aired to appease minority communities.
Speaking on the topic ‘Our participation in Hindu TV channel’, Chavhanke stated that news channels were being influenced by the minority communities and foreign educated individuals.
“The difficulties faced by Hindus are not telecast on these news channels. Since the policy of a very few anti-Hindu national channels is emulated by the rest of the news channels, there is not a single channel to promote Hindu view points.”
“One national news channel refused to telecast an advertisement about a programme associated with protection of cows, despite the offer of advertisement because it would awaken the Hindus.”
“In order to change this situation and to present the difficulties faced by Hindus, a Hindu channel is essential,” remarked Chavhanke.
