PANJIM: History-sheeter Zenito Cardozo has claimed ignorance about the shootout at Imran Bepari’s residence on June 20 that accidentally killed gang member Sonu Yadav.
On the run, Cardozo made this submission before the District and Sessions Court that has slated hearing into his application, on Tuesday.
“The applicant does not know anything about the said offence (St Cruz attack) and as such is apprehending something malafide for which the applicant is preferring the present application of anticipatory bail,” Cardozo’s two-page anticipatory bail plea filed through his advocate states.
On Monday, when the matter came up for arguments, Principal Sessions Judge referred the application to Sessions Judge 1, who will hear the matter on Tuesday.
Cardozo, convicted in a double murder case in 2016, moved the local court on Sunday seeking anticipatory bail in the present case that has so far led to the arrest of 20 persons. The Old Goa Police have booked him for attempted murder besides other sections in Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
The history-sheeter has claimed that he is a “law abiding citizen and has regards for the law and force while seeking interim bail till the disposal of the application. Cardozo further claimed that he has co-operated with the police and shall continue henceforth in the matter of investigation.
The police teams had launched futile search for the accused with several places raided and his close associates questioned. The search for his two accomplices also continues.
