PANJIM: A man who was forced closed door is now going door-to-door.

While on one hand, many big names have been fielded for contesting the March 3 assembly elections, history-sheeter Joe Boy filed his nomination from Santa Cruz as an independent candidate with full stride and confidence.

The controversial local has filed the nomination papers under his real name Jose Lopes, as is mentioned in the electoral roll and voter’s card.

In a quick chat with Herald, Lopes said he has revealed thorough details about himself and his possessions.

He owns assets worth Rs 1.69-lakh approximately.

“I live at my grand parents’ place and I have only one movable property – two-wheeler. I have two bank accounts with only Rs 15,200 balance,” he told Herald.

Other miscellaneous properties are costing about a lakh rupees, he has disclosed in his affidavit.

Lopes, it may be recalled, was on a look out for almost seven months after another history-sheeter Michael Fernandes during police interrogation confessed in 2007 that he was given the contract to kill Roy, son of the Home Minister Ravi Naik.

The police sprung into action and launched a massive manhunt while also teams were sent to other places, but Joe Boy remained underground.

It was only a fortnight ago; he emerged to give his presence at the Porvorim Police Station wherein Fernandes is being questioned in an armed robbery case. Lopes who came with the anticipatory bail order granted by local Court last year, heaved a sigh of relief when Fernandes reportedly said the former never gave him any killing contract.

Joe Boy has been given symbol options of torch, bread and bat.
