MARGAO: History-sheeter Mohammed Rafiq who was arrested from Bombay has been remanded in police custody for to 11 days. He has been charged for rape of both a minor and adult as the minor girl he had kidnapped two years ago since has become major.
He has been booked under Section 376 of Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Sometime in September 2015 Rafiq, a resident of Seraulim, who had a history of chain snatching and even rape, kidnapped a 16-year-old Catholic girl from Navelim and disappeared.
For the last two years, police sent teams to catch him at Calcutta, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Thane but he evaded arrest every time.
