History-sheeters under radar in Salcete

A senior police officer from South Goa said that the entire police force would be engaged in security and maintenance of law and order.

MARGAO: With the model code of conduct in force for the upcoming Panchayat polls in the State, Salcete police are maintaining a close watch on the activities of history-sheeters with the help of specially constituted police teams.

According to the sources, a team of policemen have been assigned the task to compile inputs about the routine of history-sheeters of their respective police stations and take action.

It is learnt that the police personnel have been advised to execute pending bailable and non-bailable warrants.

Colva PI Filomena Costa when contacted said that so far the police have taken preventive action against seven history-sheeters and the drive will continue. He said “Police personnel have been directed to keep a strict eye on their activities and initiate action. We are maintaining a close watch in the jurisdiction of Colva police station.” 

The PI informed that most of the firearms holders have deposited their weapons. One senior police officer said that in Salcete there are five police stations and frequent checks in hotels and lodges will be conducted to maintain law and order. He said that apart from maintaining law and order till the completion of elections, the stress was on the need for strict implementation of the various standing and specific orders, directions and instructions aimed at enabling a peaceful and fair election.
