HJS claims halal food tramples Hindus’ religious freedom, holds protest at KFC

The committee added that only 15 per cent of the country's Muslim community wants to eat ‘halal’ according to Islam and questioned why 'halal' was being imposed on 85 per cent of the community.

MARGAO: The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) handed over a memorandum to the South Goa Collector on Monday as part of its campaign against Halal certified products. They demanded that Hindu consumers should not be forced to consume ‘halal’ food, and ‘non-halal’ food should be made available to the Hindu community. HJS’s Anti-Halal Action Committee protested outside the fast-food chain KFC’s Margao outlet, demanding that ‘non-halal’ food be made available to the Hindu community.

The committee added that only 15 per cent of the country’s Muslim community wants to eat ‘halal’ according to Islam and questioned why ‘halal’ was being imposed on 85 per cent of the community. Strongly condemning this, HJS claimed that KFC is trampling on Hindus’ right to religious freedom by force-feeding them halal food.
