PANJIM: Days after students of Class X complained that the science paper was tough with twisted questions, Goa Headmasters Association echoed the complaint. The association, led by its president Vithoba Desai, termed the sudden change in pattern as ‘shocking and fearful.’
“Students answering their SSC examination were shocked and in tears to find a very difficult, twisted and strange science question paper. Parents, teachers and all stakeholders have expressed grave concern over the sudden change of pattern and difficulty level of the science question paper. The sudden change of the pattern was shocking and fearful,” a letter to Goa Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education chairman Ramakrishna Samant states.
The association alleged that teachers too were not trained or prepared at any workshop to teach the changed pattern to students. The letter emphasised on how no detention policy allows students to be promoted till Class VIII without hassles, while on the other hand, it was strange to abruptly increase the understanding and application level of science at SSC.
“It may also be considered that all students passing SSC Examination do not opt for science stream at higher education, hence all students at SSC level may not be pressurised to gain very difficult knowledge of science. We express our concern about the students community more particularly (those) hailing from rural areas for their endangered future and career,” it adds.
Class X students had complained that the science paper was tough as compared to the previous years and claimed that some questions could not be understood. Parents too supported their children claiming that the difficulty level of the paper was high and demanded leniency in correction.
GBSHSE Chairman Ramakrishna Samant has said that a scrutiny of the science paper by a panel of teachers was conducted after the complaints and it was found that questions amounting to 10 marks were slightly difficult but based on the syllabus.
