MARGAO: A telephone call that a bomb is planted at a petrol pump in the heart of the commercial capital gave some anxious moments for the men-in-uniform on Friday noon.
Acting on the information from a photo journalist that he has received information that a bomb was planted at the Kurade petrol pump, the Margao police cordoned off the entire area and immediately requisitioned the services of the bomb disposal squad.
The bomb disposal squad conducted a thorough search of all the seven petrol pumps located in the city, besides the adjoining old bus stand. The call turned out a hoax after a thorough search of the petrol pumps and the adjoining Margao old bus stand yielded nothing incriminating.
A member of the bomb disposal squad Shanta Velip told Herald that they have carried out a search of the city petrol pumps, but no bomb was found planted anywhere. The police diverted traffic from the SBI to the Gomant Vidya Niketan as a precautionary measure during the search operation.
