PANJIM: Former Goa Bhandari Samaj (GBS) president Anil Hoble has sought the judiciary’s intervention into the election of the new executive committee of the GBS. Hoble has moved the Civil Court after the election committee – that handled the GBS election process held in November – failed to heed to his request for a re-count of the votes.
After two days of counting, the new committee was elected on November 27, 2018 with Ashok Naik defeating Hoble. “I had sought re-counting on the very same night when the counting process had been completed but the election committee said they were short of manpower. I had given a deadline of 15 days to carry out the re-counting and since the election committee has not heeded to the request, I have moved the civil court,” Hoble said addressing the media on Thursday.
The former GBS president said he will respect any court decision on the matter. “I have not handed over my charge. If the court rules in my favour, the re-counting should happen but if the decision is otherwise, I will hand over the charge to the new committee,” he said. The court will hear the petition on January 16.
Hoble has also filed a police complaint against the newly-elected panel for breaking into the office at Patto and taking away some stationery.
The elections to appoint the executive committee of the Goa Bhandari Samaj were held in Panjim wherein 2667 voters out 3998 had cast their votes. Naik had defeated Hoble by a margin of 78 votes. While Naik secured 1283 votes, Hoble who held the post for nearly nine years got 1205 votes.
