Hoble’s bar, retail licences suspended

PANJIM: The Excise Commissioner on Friday suspended the bar and retail licences issued to Goa BJP Vice President Anil Hoble for his business venture along the Ribandar-Panjim causeway, following the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order deeming the premises illegal. Both the excise licenses were issued in the name of Hoble’s wife Sandhya.

Friday’s order came following a complaint filed by social activist, advocate Aires Rodrigues, that Hoble’s structures are illegal according to the NGT order and in violation of various provisions of the environment law. NGT has also fined Hoble Rs 20 lakh for damaging the environment.
“We have issued a show cause notice which is returnable within seven days and mean time the license has been suspended,” Excise Commissioner Menino D’Souza said.
Hoble has also been directed by the Excise Commissioner to appear for a personal hearing on June 29.
In a related development, Justice F M Reis of the Bombay High Court at Goa declined to hear Hoble’s petition challenging the NGT order ordering demolition of his illegal structures and directed that the petition be placed before the Division Bench on June 23.
Meanwhile, the Corporation of City of Panaji in a notice to Hoble asked him to show cause as to why his commercial activity should not be stopped in the structures now declared illegal by NGT.
Hoble’s River Lounge Bar & Restaurant was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on April 1, 2014.
