CURCHOREM: Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar has been unanimously elected as chairman of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) at a meeting held on Wednesday.
All the fourteen councillors were present and supported Hodarkar when presiding officer Vikas Kambli, the chief officer of Canacona Municipal Council asked them if there is any opposition to the candidature of Hodarkar. Later, Kambli declared him elected unopposed in the presence of CCMC Chief Officer Ajay Gaude and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral.
Congratulating Hodarkar, Minister Cabral urged him to work in the interest of the people and cooperate to develop the town of Curchorem in cooperation with his councillors and the chief officer.
The post was vacant following the resignation of former Chairperson Felix Fernandes as per the agreement they had made soon after the municipal election in 2015 to share the coveted post for one year each among the ruling councillors.
