PANJIM: The Goa Women’s Forum (GWF) has written to Deputy Collector (Tiswadi) reminding its request to hold awareness programmes to combat human trafficking and prostitution against the backdrop of numerous cases surfacing in the State.
“On the occasion of International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, we wish to take the opportunity to remind your office of the contents of our letter dated November 5, 2018,” the letter by GWF convener Lorna Fernandes states.
She said these cases which are on the increase need to be stopped. However, Fernandes further said, this will be possible only if the local community is made aware of the exploitation taking place, the laws prevalent to combat this menace and the role of civil society.
“In this regards, we request you to organise an awareness programmes on the need to combat human trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation in collaboration with the Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Goa Police and NGO ARZ,” she urged and added that awareness programmes need to be held in Tiswadi so that councillors, panchayat members, NGOs, Women’s Cells, Mahila Mandals, Legal Aid Cells, Consumer Forums and others may take the benefit.
“We assure you of our support in mobilising participants for the programme once you have finalised the date, time and venue.”
