PONDA: Reacting to speculations on the Shigmo parades being cancelled in view of the rising COVID cases, artists from across Goa gathered at Ponda late Thursday night and demanded that the government especially Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude should hold the float parade in Ponda on March 30 as per schedule.
The further demanded that the float parades at Panjim and Mapusa be held on April 2 and 3 respectively.
They said, “Wearing of mask should be made mandatory for the public attending the parade. Artists have worked hard in preparing the floats since the last few months and have spent Rs 3 lakh on floats and similarly on romtamel as well.”
Some artists requested that the float parade be telecast live on TV. They even suggested that float parade should be postponed but not cancelled and expressed fear that if Shigmo is cancelled then they won’t be able to recover the cost.
