In response to Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai holding aloft the copy of O Heraldo with its banner headline story giving evidence of maggot-filed rice in Fair Price shops, Minister Ravi Naik said these were old reports. O Heraldo respectfully submits that the videos were shot based on our ground-level investigations in response to the Minister’s earlier statement on May 17 that he was going to conduct an inquiry and suspend officials if maggot-infested rice was found
O Heraldo reported and shot videos of maggot-filled rice in Fair Price shops of your dept on Aug 1 and 2, 2023. On Aug 1, our reporter Marcos Gonsalves as part of his inspection of several fair price shops found infected rice in many and sent photos one of which we published. On Aug 2, even before the issue was raised in the House, video journalist Mohit Karangate went to fair price shop number 90 at Davorlim and fair price shop number 50 and Aquem and recorded videos of stinking filthy maggot-infested rice from both these shops
