Hopefully a bridge not too far

Residents of Shikeri Mayem would like a new bridge to Aldona; Old one is rusting

Residents of Shikeri Mayem would like the metal bridge to Aldona to be repaired or a new one built because it is now in a dilapidated condition. A part of the bridge is slowing rusting and its life is coming to an end.
“Earlier there was no bridge and we used to ferry people to the other side with the help of a small boat and now with the building of this bridge even motorcycles can go to the other side,” a senior citizen told Herald.
The bridge is important as it reduces the distance between the two villages by almost   three kilometers. “This is an important connecting bridge and is very important for people especially students who always ply from Mayem to Aldona to attend class,” former Mayem panch Narendra Tari said.
Currently the metal plates of the bridge have developed cracks and residents feel it could be dangerous. “Some of the metal plates of the bridge have developed cracks and there are holes seen at many places of the bridge. This could prove dangerous for the people who use it and so we demand a permanent bridge be built,” Tari said.
“There is a proposal to construct another bridge and all the sanctions have already been taken. The bridge will cost Rs 7 crore and we request the CM to look into this matter,” Tari said.
“We have already informed the MLA, Pravin Zantye and even he has assured to look into the matter,” Tari claimed.
