Horticulture Corp to open 50 more outlets

Goa State Horticulture Corporation will open 50 outlets in the state in addition to existing 336 outlets which are currently functioning.
Corporation Chairman Sankalp Amonkar told reporters that they want to make their presence all over the state especially in villages providing subsidized vegetables and fruits.
He said that the inspections are going on for 50 new carts, which will be in place by January, coming year.
Amonkar said that vegetables and fruits sold at cheaper rates compared to the market price has made their outlets a sought after by the common man.
The corporation claimed that they are serving around 50,000 customers daily and their mobile vans are also visiting the areas where there are no outlets.
“We are trying to reach to the doorstep of every common man. The corporation wants to ease the inflation in every possible way,” he said adding that Digambar Kamat led government has provided all the possible support for the corporation to serve the needy.
The corporation has decided to add more products to their menu. Amonkar said that the new outlets will also sell coriander leaves, garlic, ginger and similar products at much lesser than the market price.
He stated that the franchisees will now also be kept happy by paying them higher commission. The corporation has approved hike in the commission from 15 per cent to 20 per cent, which will not percolate down to the rates.
“We have maintained the same rates on the products despite raising the commission. The corporation will bear the cost,” he said.
The chairman added that the State pitches in with Rs 80 lakh per month to subsidise various products sold on the corporation’s shelves.
Going to the farmers in a real way, the corporation has decided to help them raise the seedlings from this rabbi season. “We want to encourage local farmers to grow vegetables and have come up with a scheme in which more than one thousand farmers would be benefited,” Amonkar said.
The corporation intends to raise 80,000 seedlings of ‘chillies’ and ‘brinjal’. It has also has put up a green house facility at Chimbel.
He said that the procurement centres at Canacona and Old Goa would be commissioned by the corporation in addition to the existing centres at Quepem and Fatorpa
