MARGAO: Hospicio was back in the news on Monday for negligence.
Relatives of a woman admitted in the hospital have accused the hospital for negligence while suturing a degloving injury, resulting in infection of her leg.
The relatives claimed that the junior doctor sutured the wound without proper cleaning, resulting in the infection. What infuriated the relatives was the doctor’s recommendation to shift the patient to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. They demanded that the patient be shifted to a private hospital and hospital bear the cost of treatment.
Hospicio medical superintendent, Dr P Naschinolkar, however, denied the charge of negligence. “There’s no negligence on the part of the doctors. We have recommended shifting of the patient to GMC to avoid the infection from spreading,” he said.
The woman was rushed to Hospicio on Friday afternoon with leg injuries after she met with an accident at Rawanfond. Her relative Anthony Rodrigues claimed that the doctor on duty did the suturing without cleaning the wound and leaving no drain for the excess blood. “The bleeding did not stop after the suturing. Now after four days in the hospital, the doctors have told us to shift her to GMC,” he charged.
