MARGAO, SEPT 20
GOACAN along with various government agencies reviewed the measures taken at the Margao KTC bus stand on Monday morning.
After the inspection, it was decided that the Margao Urban Health centre will undertake spraying of the area behind the KTC canteen due to accumulation of stagnant waters from the overflowing soak pit tank.
In respect of garbage disposal, it was agreed to involve the Margao Municipal Council to lift the waste, even as the KTC agreed to identify spots at the bus stand, where bins could be installed for daily use by the commuters.
Officials underlined the need to demarcate the jurisdiction of the KTC and the MMC so that regular cleaning of the gutters and storm water drains is undertaken.
It was decided at today’s review that the kiosks operating at the Bus Stand under the Deendayal Swayam Rojgar Yojna Scheme licenced by the Goa Handicrafts Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRSSIDC) would need to be dealt with separately for which GOACAN would write to the Managing Director Mr. Nikhil Desai about putting in place a monitoring mechanism to deal with the problem of subletting and garbage disposal.
It was further agreed that the Health Officer Dr Geeta Kakodkar of Urban Health Centre Margao be requested to undertake periodic review of those spots where poor sanitation & hygiene, garbage accumulation & mosquito breeding could take place.
Prakash Azavedo Assistant Director (Enforcement) Directorate of Transport who was present today inspected the walkway for commuters entering the bus stand and noted that the 2 revolving gates were broken, while  a large number of scooters were illegally parked thereby blocking the entrance to the bus stand  and encroaching in the area of Motorcycle Taxi stand.  GOACAN has decided to write to the District Collector G P Naik in this regard for appropriate signages and to Traffic Police Deputy SP Gajanan Prabhudesai & Inspector PB Shirvoikar to conduct seperate inspection  of the area.
