MARGAO: Recently hot mixed road in Colva, caves in and a car fell into the ditch, which was later pulled out with a help of a crane.
This portion of the road was dug up for the laying of the pipeline connecting the sewerage chambers and to the Sewerage treatment plant. After that work was completed, the road was hot mixed.
“This should not have happened. We want to ask the PWD, is this the kind of road works you’ll approve of? Why this was not checked prior to the road caving in. It may further worsen with the rains. What happens if someone falls in? What happens if an ambulance has to pass this side? This is just one portion, what if a similar thing happens on other Colva roads?” asked a local resident.
Locals who gathered at the site added that the surface of the road is covered with water when it rains and this meant that commuters do not see which part of the road is bad and thus the risk to them is even greater.
They added that they had complained earlier about the quality of the road and how uneven it was but their pleas had fallen on deaf ears.
They demanded that the authorities immediately rectify this issue before there is any further incident.
