Hotel Leela told to remove pipeline

MARGAO: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has once again directed Hotel Leela Ventures, Mobor to remove within seven days the pipeline leading from the hotel to the River Sal.

The Pollution Control Board has further asked the district Collector, South to get the pipelines removed and file a compliance report.
Hotel Leela Palace was engaged in a tug of war over the removal of the two pipes since last year. While GSPCB inspection revealed that the pipeline was laid without obtaining prior permission from the Board, the hotel has maintained that the pipeline is being utilised for the discharge of storm water during the rains.
However,  the GSPCB has repeatedly termed as unsatisfactory the reply submitted by the hotel and had conveyed a message loud and clear to the hotel management that refusal to remove the pipeline amounts to a continued violation of the Board’s directions.
