Hotelier issued show cause notice

Asked to appear in person for hearing on May 6

PANJIM: The Principal District and Sessions Court, Panjim on Friday adjourned the ad-interim ex-parte order sought by the owner/management of a starred hotel after the Goa Coastal Zone management Authority (GCZMA) issued show cause notice to the hotelier asking him to appear in person for hearing on May 6.

The hotelier had filed the suit restraining praying to temporarily restrain respondents from physically interfering in any manner with the work of repairs and restoration at the Dona Paula Beach.

At the time of hearing, the Court told respondents that the plaintiff has requested for adjournment after the public prosecutor mentioned to the Court of the show cause notice dated April 28, 2021 issued by the GCZMA.

The GCZMA has asked the hotel owner/management to file their compliance report and produce construction/reconstruction/repair licence/approvals if any, issued by the concerned authorities including the GCZMA along with approved plan and documents to show the title to the GCZMA office, Panjim latest by May 3 and thereafter to appear for personal hearing before the GCZMA on May 6.

Following a complaint by the Vainguinim Valley Residents Association President Collin Curry regarding illegal construction within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and the No Development Zone (NDZ) at Dona Paula Beach, the GCZMA conducted a site inspection on April 20 and observed that the hotelier has violated the conditions imposed by the Authority.

The GCZMA found that the cement concrete has been used as against eco-friendly material when cement concrete structures are prohibited on the beach, that too within the inter-tidal zone (CRZ 1B), which that is a highly ecologically fragile area.

The ongoing linear wall construction is a new work and not repairs as permitted under the NOC granted by the Water Resources Department (WRD), the GCZMA said.
