PANJM: The recused editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine Tarun Tejpal can finally heave a sigh of relief as the Supreme Court granted him three weeks interim bail this afternoon. This however comes with a bad news since his ailing mother Shakuntala passed away late last night at their Moira house. Family sources told Herald that her cremation will be held at a Hindu Crematorium in the capital at 5pm today.

The 51-year-old senior journalist has been jailed for allegedly raping his junior colleague twice in a hotel lift on November7-8, 2013. His mother, 87, was in the last stage of brain tumour and would yet attend every court hearing in Goa until her condition deteriorated earlier this year.

Tejpal is expected to walk out of Sada sub-jail after his lawyers complete the legal formalities to ensure he attends his mother’s cremation.
