House burgled at knife point in Raia
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JULY 22
In a daring dacoity, four armed robbers looted a house at Damon-Raia on Thursday evening at knife point and decamped with gold ornaments and other items worth Rs 1.20 lakh.
The police dispatched teams to various places, including the Margao railway station, and also pressed a sniffer dog and finger print expert to obtain clues.
Maina Curtorim police station incharge, PI Sidhant Shirodkar said the foursome forced their way into the house at around 7.40 pm and instilled fear in the minds of the two inmates at knife point. After laying their hands on the keys, the duo were then locked inside a room, while the culprits opened the cupboard and lifted away the gold ornaments and a camera before they made their escape with the booty under the cover of darkness.
PI Shirodkar further said the complainant Maria Fernandes has informed that the foursome were unmasked and inquired about the son, who is working onboard the ship for the last 7-8 months and was due to return home in a month’s time. He said the complainant was inside the house with her 65-year old mother at the time of the incident.
According to information, the complainant said that while one of the accused was speaking in Konkani, the remaining three were communicating in Hindi. The police are baffled that the miscreants preferred not to cover their faces with masks and were bold enough to enter the house unmasked.
Replying to a question, he said the mother-daughter duo did not raise an alarm or alert the neighbours out of fear of the miscreants.
The police has registered a case of robbery against the unknown persons. PI Shirodkar said that the police teams were dispatched to the Margao railway station, besides the bus stand to look out for the miscreants. Other police stations were also alerted by the police late this evening.
South Goa Superintendent of police, Allan de Sa, Sub-divisional police officer, Margao DySP Umesh Gaonkar and other police officials visited the spot and were monitoring the investigations.
