MARGAO: Attending the service commemorating the passion of Jesus Christ on Friday proved to be very costly for the Fernandes family from Angadi Bhat Loutolim as their house was broken into and their jewellery that was kept at home was stolen.
Anthony Joaquim Fernandes along with his family had gone to the church to attend the Good Friday religious ceremony yesterday and when they returned home they found the front door broken open and on entering the house they saw their cupboard ransacked.
The thieves stole one mangalsutra, four gold bangles, two rings, a gold bracelet and three pairs of earrings all worth around Rs. 1.54 lakh. Following a complaint lodged by Anthony, police began investigations and it is learnt that the fingerprint expert summoned could not find any prints.
Police have registered a case of housebreaking and theft against unknown persons under Sections 454, 457, 380 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code. It may be recalled that last year too, on Good Friday another house about 500 mts away from Anthony’s house was burgled in a similar manner.
