PONDA: A house belonging to one Irappa Pariman Jutapanvar, located in Bablyakhali slum area, Curti-Ponda was gutted in fire damaging property worth Rs 1.5 lakh, on Tuesday.
However, timely rescue operation averted untoward incident. Clothes, including cash of Rs 80,000 kept in the cupboard got burnt and a refrigerator was damaged.
According to house owner Irappa, the incident occurred in the morning when he was out for his work at Tisk-Ponda. Followingly, he rushed to the house and removed the LPG cylinder from the kitchen. Soon fire personnel rushed to spot.
He said the fire occurred due to short circuit in the refrigerator causing loss of Rs 1.5 lakh, this included a bundle of cash having denomination of Rs 500 worth Rs 80,000 gutted. Timely help by the fire personnel saved the rest of property.
Ponda Fire Brigade In-Charge Sushil Morajkar said after receiving a call they immediately rushed to the spot.
Morajkar said one media person Vivek Prabh, who was passing by saw the house on fire and immediately informed the Ponda Fire Brigade Station. Within few minutes, a team was dispatched to the spot.
He urged the house owners to switch off the power before leaving to work.
It may be recalled that Bablyakhali is densely populated area with cluster of houses attached to each other and there is little access for the fire vehicles. Luckily, the house caught fire was near the roadside and before it could reach to other houses, fire personnel doused the fire and saved the house from further damage.
