Property worth nearly Rs 3 lakh was destroyed, after a house was gutted in a fire at Headland Sada, Mormugao, on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, no one was injured in the incident, as the house inmates were not present in the house when the incident occurred.
Electrical appliances like TV, washing machine, refrigerator, cash and gold valuables belonging to tenant Vithoba Dabolkar, who was residing in the rented house, were gutted in the fire.
Dabolkar, who had gone to drop his child to school and later for shopping, received a call at about 9.30 am stating that fire erupted in his rented house.
However, before he could arrive, Dabolkar’s neighbours put in efforts to extinguish the fire, fire brigade also rushed to the site. However, due to the congested and narrow approach road to the site, the fire brigade was forced to attach as many as six hose pipes to extinguish the fire.
“After receiving a call from Panjim headquarters, myself along with officer Rupesh Sawant and three fire fighters rushed to the site and extinguished the fire,” said Vasco Fire Brigade Station In-charge Bosco Ferrao.
He further said most of the electrical appliances like TV, washing machine, refrigerator and other electronic items, cash of Rs 10,000 and gold chain worth Rs 50,000 and other furniture were completely gutted in the fire.
Ferrao said the damage to property is estimated to be Rs 2.95 lakh. The cause of fire is suspected to be a short circuit that could lead the fire, but the Fire Department would seek a report from the Electricity Department.
