SATTARI: A short circuit of a newly purchased refrigerator gutted part of a residential house at Hathwada, Valpoi on Sunday morning, destroying property worth Rs 1.5 lakh. However, no loss of life was reported.
The fire is believed to have occurred at around 1.30 am and soon spread to the house of one Aiyaz Aga, gutting household items. Aga’s presence of mind in early hours averted the loss of life.
Aga informed that on Saturday evening he had purchased a new refrigerator from Valpoi and had followed all the guidelines during the installation. But, at 1.30 am he found that fire broke out in the kitchen due to short circuit in the refrigerator. Police and fire tenders reached the spot and put off the fire.
