PANJIM: Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik, who was prevented by Karnataka MPs in Parliament from speaking on Mhadei dispute, on Friday said that the constitution of House Committee by Goa assembly will give justice to the State and protect Mhadei River.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at Panjim, Naik welcomed the Goa Assembly passing unanimous resolution over Mhadei River and formation of a House Committee to ascertain he views of environmentalists, lawyers and others. He said that the House Committee will study the matter in details and make Goa’s case strong.
In the past some legislators were talking in different direction and hoped that they will now speak in unison to save Mhadei River, he said.
Naik, who early this month had threatened to quit as Minister if the Centre fails to withdraw the Karnataka’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) however expressed confidence that the Government of India will do justice for Goa. He said that Mhadei River is Goa’s lifeline and diversion of water will adversely affect the environment and ecology of the State.
