Even after a fortnight of the attack on National Students Union of India (NSUI) state Chief Sunil Khawtankar on July 23, police have hitherto failed to nab the unknown assailants.
Replying to a calling attention motion moved by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator on the floor of the House today, a statement released by the Home Minister Ravi Naik said that police haven’t got useful clues in the case, as yet.
“Since the investigation has revealed that the accused were on a black colour Pulsar motor cycle, a list…was obtained from RTO and Dealers. Out of the said list Pulsar motorcycles owned by the persons along the Karaswada, Mulgao-Bicholim road were shortlisted and verification is on.
Till now, 150 such motorcycles are verified and 150 persons have been questions, but no useful clue has come forth, till date,” Chief Minister Digambar Kamat replied for Home Minister Ravi Naik.
Naik attended the Assembly session for the first time today, after hospital discharge. He was admitted in the city hospital on health grounds.
Kamat informed the House that Mapusa police have issued notices to owners of black Pulsar motorbike in connection with the case.
Khawtankar and three NSUI activists were attacked when they were enroute to Bicholim via car to participate in the signature campaign demanding handing over the police-drug cartel nexus to CBI.
Two unknown men on black Pulsar motorbike hurled a big stone on the windshield of the car leaving the driver – Khawtankar injured. While the remaining three escaped unhurt.
Sketch of one of the accused has been released at all important locations but efforts in vain so far. The Government said that Mapusa police are making efforts to detect the case.
