MARGAO: Discussions over house tax dominated discussions at the Aquem-Baixo and Telaulim gram sabha on Sunday.
Both these village panchayats fall under the Navelim Assembly constituency.
At the Telaulim gram sabha, the details of the 2023 Audit report carried out by the government was placed before the gram sabha members.
There were calls to increase the recovery of house tax in order to provide better service of the tasks of the panchayat. There were also calls to take action against those who are not paying their house tax dues.
There were similar discussions regarding house tax at Aquem Baixo gram sabha.
Questions were also raised over the delay in cleaning certain drains given that the monsoon season has arrived.
There was also criticism over what was the purpose of paying house tax if the panchayat was delivering on issues like the clearing of drains.
Aquem-Baixo Panchayat officials stated that the house tax recovery process is an ongoing exercise.
