PANJIM: Town and Country Planning Board gave in principle approval to construction of houses under the Atal Asra scheme of the Department of Tribal Welfare, a move which could partially help tribals to construct houses under the scheme.
The move, which experts say will not give full benefit to the tribals, until they have right to the land and until titular rights to the land are given to them through a government policy, is nonetheless a step forward towards Tribal welfare.
The government had announced the Atal Asra Yojna to give financial assistance worth Rs 2.5 lakh for construction of new house and Rs 1 lakh for repairs of old structure would be provided to the ST community.
The board’s approval will now result in a TCP construction licence subject to other documents and permissions being in order.
