PANJIM: Mamata Banerjee led All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and its ally Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) have promised to provide housing at a subsidised rate to about 50,000 Goan families, within 250 days of forming the next government in Goa. The party has promise to ensure Title and Ownership Right of up to 250 sq mts land to the tenants.
The scheme will be applicable to all the Goan families residing in Goa since before 1976.
This is a third major election promise announced by Trinamool Congress (TMC). The other two promises- Griha Laxmi, under which monthly Rs 5,000 will be transferred into the bank accounts of women in each family and Yuva Shakti card with credit upto Rs 20 lakh to the youths at 4 per cent interest, will be provided.
TMC national vice-president and Member of Parliament Luizinho Faleiro said that all the three schemes accounts to 13.2 per cent of the total State budget.
He said that securing Housing Rights of the people is a constitutional duty of any government, and they aim to fulfill their duty through their campaign. “People are in mess and suffering. People are looking for a change. These three schemes have given new hope to the people of Goa,” Faleiro said.
TMC announced to operationalise pro-people legislations like The Goa, Daman and Diu Agricultural Tenancy Act, 1964 and The Goa, Daman and Diu Mundkars (Protection from Eviction) Act, 1975 on the ground, and take the cause further.
Speaking about the scheme, TMC leader Kiran Kandolkar said that the aim of the scheme is to give Title and Ownership Rights of 50,000 subsidised homes to all homeless families.
“Within 250 days of forming the government, Goa TMC alliance will ensure Title & Ownership Right of up to 250 sq mts land to the tenants,” he said.
An expert committee will be set-up to duly compensate landowners either with government owned land or cash transfer or a combination of both.
In order to implement the scheme and to ensure that all stakeholders are addressed properly TMC will conduct an extensive door-to-door campaign across the state with a pool of 3,000 volunteers covering all Goan households.
MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar said that this is a movement to ensure that Goenkars get their due Title and Ownership Rights over their houses.
TMC claimed that Goans have been cheated by the existing schemes, including the proposed Bhumiputra Bill which aimed at changing the demographics of the State.
