MARGAO: Sanskar Co-operative Housing Society, Margao failed to vacate their unsafe building, despite the strict warning from the Margao Municipal Council to vacate it within the 30 days time period, as a result, the lives of several occupants are at risk. Now, if any eventualities take place, the occupants living shall be responsible.
The 30 days time given by the MMC with an order to the above housing society comes to end on July 16, informed Agnelo Fernandes, Chief Officer MMC. Sanskar building is one of the 19 unsafe buildings identified in Margao by the civic body.
Chief Officer had passed an order on June 16, 2021 warning that in case the society failed to vacate their premises within a stipulated time that is 30 days from the order issued, and if any eventualities take place, the occupants living therein shall be personally responsible and the Council should not be held responsible in any manner.
It must be noted that there are nearly 19 unsafe buildings in the jurisdiction of Margao municipality and maximum buildings are still occupied by the occupants.
Chief Officer had issued this order upon the complaint filed before the MMC on May 23, 2012, with regard to the structural stability report. “In pursuance of Section 190 Sub-Section (1) and (2) all the occupants are directed to vacate the said premises within a period of 30 days from the date of receipt of this final order,” the order stated.
Order further states that this is a fit case to order demolition.It is mentioned that inspection was held and it was noticed that Sanskar Co-operative Housing Society with a dilapidated condition which is very old and likely to collapse, which may cause health hazards, and danger to the residents, and other persons.
Speaking to Herald Chief Officer said that the matter was dragged down for several years since he took the charge of MMC.
“The matter was taken up for personal hearing. Upon the notice three persons belonging to the Sanskar Housing Society had raised objections for the demolition of the said building by filling their written objection on April 8, 2021,” informed the CO.
The order also states that those three persons had filed objections that too after about seven years of the notice issued. However, the objection was dismissed by MMC. Nearly 22 members of the above housing society had a complaint about the imminent danger to this four-storied building.
The MMC had also directed the society to approach the competent authority regarding the approval of the re-development plan of a dilapidated building, follow all the rules and regulations before undertaking the actual demolition.
