Panjim: If the Congress had not fielded their candidates in the CCP election, then Babush’s toll could have crossed 20. There is a clear cut defeat in at least six wards where Babush’s candidates lost due to the Congress’ presence -ward numbers 12, 13, 16 and 30 were where Babush’s candidates lost in a triangular fight, analysts claim. With the Congress in the fray, the votes were split and possibly taken away from the Babush camp.
Though Congress was in the fray for the CCP elections, they were not able to get their own strong leaders from Panjim. Yatin Parekh’s wife Lata won from Babush’s panel. Parekh was Congress’ candidate in the 2012 Assembly polls in the Panjim constituency whereas Surendra Furtado who has retained his and his wife’s seat in ward 9 and 10 had contested the last Panjim bypoll elections and he is a still Congressman.
