MARGAO: The issue of ‘enable house numbers’ (EHNs) dominated the Assolna gram sabha, with villagers demanding that the village panchayat carry out a thorough inspection of the establishments constructed in the village, that have been given these temporary house numbers. Earlier, the gram sabha was adjourned twice due to issues regarding the EHNs and the budget.
After a lengthy discussion, wherein panchayat members were grilled over house numbers granted to places in their own wards, it was decided that people be updated in the near the future about the status of the inspection to be carried out by the panchayat.
Villagers pointed out that in the case of those houses which are genuine cases, wherein it is just a matter of obtaining final permissions from the authorities concerned, this may be okay but what happens to those establishments, which are unable to obtain the necessary permissions within six months’ time?
