MARGAO: Local residents raised a hue and cry over the alleged destruction of a sand dune on Sernabatim beach on Friday.
After news of the alleged activity took place, a group of locals rushed to the site and took video and photographic evidence. They were also irked to find a JCB machine in the vicinity.
While the panchayat has been informed of the incident, locals have demanded that action be taken against the persons responsible for the alleged destruction of the beach.
Furthermore, they have demanded that immediate steps be taken to restore the damaged sand dunes.
There were also complaints that this is not the first time such an incident had taken place there.
Judith Almeida of Colva Civic and Consumer Forum also backed these demands.
Locals further highlighted how sand dunes helped maintain beaches and protect the shoreline from coastal erosion and in cases of adverse weather conditions.
