MARGAO: Taking into consideration the opposition to construction of bridge underway at Sinquetim, Navelim, Public Works Department Minister Nilesh Cabral shown the readiness to discuss on the issue, but at the same time he stated that the government has already spend huge money on the project and it got all the necessary clearances.
On Thursday at Navelim, George Barreto, a local leader from the Navelim discussed the issue with the Cabral, wherein the Minister informed him that all the files pertaining to the project are cleared and even land acquisition has been done long back.
The PWD Minister assured Barreto that he is ready to discuss the issue of proposed road widening for the sake of the bridge.
It may be recalled that a section of people from Benaulim are in favour of the construction of bridge and they claim that the opposition to the project is for political reasons. During the sewer pipeline inspection at Navelim, Barreto met Cabral and requested him to look into the matter.
“I am aware of the matter and have already gone through the files of the project. This matter is monitored by the High Court and as per the files all permission for the construction of the bridge has been granted long back. Entire land has been acquired for the bridge project,” said Cabral.
