Huge pothole on new service road along new Khandepar bridge haunts commuters

PONDA: A huge pothole on the new service road along the new Khandepar bridge’s is proving to be a headache for commuters travelling from Mollem to Ponda.

The size of the pothole is such that four-wheelers have no option other than to drive over it while two-wheeler riders barely escape it. Many motorists are taken aback by the pothole as they drive at a high speed since the road is a national highway.

Last year a container had fallen on its side at this spot. A large number of vehicles use the service road maximising the chances of a mishap.

The road was opened for traffic a few weeks ago and serves as an alternate for the old junction road. The service road is used by private State buses as well as heavy container trucks from other states. The pothole is right on a turn which makes it even more hazardous.  Meanwhile, the agony of Usgao locals continues as there are no signs of potholes at Usgao circle being repaired anytime soon. The monsoon is gaining a steady momentum again and during Chaturthi days, these roads will pose grave danger to the motorists. The potholes get filled with muddy water and makes it difficult for pedestrians to walk as well. Half of the road near the circle was repaired a few days ago but just a few showers of rain have restored it back to its usual sad state.
