Huge response from youth for Mega Job Fair

The chief minister announced holding another job fair in the South Goa district within the next three months.

PANJIM: The Mega Job Fair, organised by the Labor and Employment Department, received a tremendous response on the first day on Tuesday. The registrations of aspiring candidates crossed 19,000 by afternoon, claimed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant as nearly 5500 jobs by over 150 companies/employers are up for grabs at the two-day Mega Job Fair held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Taleigao.

Addressing the youth and parents, Sawant said that employment opportunities in government departments are limited and hence it is difficult for the government to provide government jobs for every aspiring youth. He however assured the youth that the State government will implement the Ordinance issued by the Government of India which ensures continuity of pay scale for private sector employees.

“All the government recruitment will be done through Staff Selection Commission competitive examination. 20 per cent government servants are not working efficiently. All the inefficient employees will have to go through the VRS/CRS process as government needs to give services to people online speedily and efficiently,” he said.

Sawant further said that the government has decided to implement the ordinance of the Centre which ensures continuity of pay scale. “Government is also prepared to make improvement in wages in private sector. The government intends to provide some facilities like home loans, salary upgradation for those who work in private sector. For example he mentioned that government is looking for ESI payment to be made from time to time,” he added.

“Minimum of one-year work experience will be required to get government jobs in the future. The desiring persons will have to get at least one-year experience in private sector. Government has decided to make necessary changes in Recruitment Rules (RR) to effect this change,” he said.

The chief minister announced holding another job fair in the South Goa district within the next three months.

Labour and Employment Minister Atanasio Monserrate said that he feels pained and frustrated when parents and educated unemployed youth come to him seeking jobs. “Today thousands (students) pass from various universities and seek jobs which is a tedious process. Let us do a reality check that many want government jobs but opportunities are limited,” he said.

“We will manage to pull in job opportunities from private sector. We have our doors open but you have to enter it,” he said.

“Youth are the pillars of today. Be flexible to take up jobs in private sector,” Monserrate told them.
