PONDA: A huge tree got uprooted at Kaswada, Talaulim leaving a couple of houses and two-wheelers damaged.
The incident took place on at around 3.30 pm yesterday when the fell on the house of one Pravin Naik partly damaging the front portion along with consumer goods. The owner claimed that he suffered a loss of Rs three lakhs. Three other houses were also damaged in the neighbourhood. Sarpanch Vasundara Sawant conducted the site inspection and promised compensation to the owners.
The fire personnel immediately rushed to the area and rescued two persons trapped in a room and cleared the mess after a hectic operation. Locals said the tree was old and the owners had objected it to being cut down.
