PANJIM: The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has demanded action against the Calangute Police for allegedly exploiting and humiliating a person with hearing impairment and against a social activist Walter Lobo for using derogatory language and humiliating the victim on social media.

Referring to a viral video on social media wherein a social activist Walter Lobo from Calangute is seen humiliating a person with hearing impairment with derogatory language after the person with hearing impairment was assaulted by the social activist (as per the police in the video), DRAG President Avelio de Sa said that he met Calangute Police Station Police Inspector Nolasco Raposo regarding the above matter and was shocked to hear from him that no police complaint has been received from the person with hearing impairment nor can the person be traced.
In a letter to the Superintendent of Police, North, De Sa has demanded an inquiry into the matter due to unanswered questions which, he said, is leading him to believe that the person with hearing impairment was exploited by the Calangute Police due to which he was humiliated with derogatory language by the social activist.
The DRAG has demanded action against the concerned officers if found guilty as such behaviour from the police is not acceptable since exploitation and humiliation of persons with disability is a criminal offence under the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016 as India is a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability.
