CUNCOLIM: The mortal remains of Fr Clifton Fernandes, who was the assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Snows Church Raia,were laid to rest at the cemetery of Our Lady of Piety Chapel, Panzorconi-Cuncolim chapel on Wednesday.
Hundreds of people joined priests and nuns to bid a tearful farewell to the priest.
His Eminence Filipe NeriCardinal Ferrao was the main celebrant at the Eucharistic service.
Cardinal Ferrao extolled the work of Fr Clifton and said he was “a humble person, a lighthouse to the youths and helpful to people in need”.
FrXavier Braganza, in his homily said,“Fr Clifton Fernandes was torchbearer of Jesus’ teachings and had been an inspiration to youths, besides being a hardworking priest.
Forty-seven-year-oldFr Clifton passed away following a massive heart attack on Saturday.
Ordained a priest on October 22, 2003, he served at St Joseph Church, Sao Jose de Areal; St Andrew’s Church, Vasco; Holy Trinity Church, Benaulim and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Chapel, Curtorim.
