CURTORIM: Hundreds of people from across Goa flocked to Curtorim as early as 6.30 am on Sunday to pick up freshwater fish caught at the Curtorim Lake and Raitollem.
Freshwater fishing is a ritual in these areas, and Curtorim is famous for fish like ‘Katla’, ‘Komin’, catfish, ‘Chonak’, ‘Rohu’, ‘Pitol’, and ‘Kalu’.
The freshwater fishing was organised by Antonio Fernandes at the Curtorim Lake and Andrew Luis at Raitollem.
Local fishermen, who use traditional methods, venture into the knee-deep water for fishing, while others venture even deeper. The fish available in these areas is high in demand among locals and watching them fish is an added pleasure.
It is also common for Curtorim locals to invite friends and family from far to enjoy the catch, while Goans from other parts of the State call on their friends and relatives in Curtorim to place an order in advance for them.
