In this connection, police arrested Uttam Desai from same area on a complaint of Sudin Gawade that Desai criminally trespassed into his hut and set it on fire. The loss of property — the hut and other valuables — is estimated at Rs 1 lakh.
Sudin’s sister Tanuja (20) told Herald the incident took place in their absence and when they were informed they tried to extinguish the fire but failed. She said she and her younger brother are residing in the hut since many years with their parents. Her father expired ten year ago while her mother died three months ago.
They are now homeless and cooking their food and also sleeping in open. The Bandora Deputy Sarpanch Santosh Fadte, Panchas Rajesh Naik and Ramchandra who were present at site inspection, condemned the burning of the hut.
